There is no such thing as "falling behind" in scouting

Posted by drlafontaine on Dec 7 2016 - 10:55am

We spend a lot of time in our troop activities “working towards advancement” or helping scouts “meet the requirements.”  Why?  How?  What happens if a scout doesn’t advance along with his peers?  These are good questions and the BSA’s Guide to Advancement (GTA) offers explanations that may not be well known or understood.  Let’s review the doctrine to discover why we place such an emphasis on advancement and yet still allow scouts to proceed at an individual pace (and sometimes not proceed at all).

Ski Trip Sign up CANCELLED

Posted by drlafontaine on Dec 6 2016 - 10:15am

Unfortunately, the council that operates this trip has a high demand and needed us to commit to 14 participants right away. Since we had zero sign-ups when they contacted us, we had to tell them to rent to someone else.

The good news is that zero scouts should be affected because zero were signed up. The bad news is that this outing was proposed at the Annual Planning Conference, reviewed and agreed upon by the Patrol Leaders Council, and added to the calendar by the Senior Patrol Leader at the beginning of the season. It seems like we had a "good idea" that no one was actually willing to do. So we won't.

But the other good news is that the PLC will re-evaluate the calendar and come up with an alternative plan. This is Scouting in action!

[Mr. L]

Sign up for the Troop ski trip on Jan 13 to 15th at Gore Mountain has been extended to this Wednesday 12/7.

Posted by DConnelly on Dec 3 2016 - 11:03pm

Last chance to sign up for the Klondike Prep trip.  The trip is at the Mt Hope cabin on Friday 12/9 to 12/11.

For the Klondike prep trip, don't forget each scout is to bring 2 cans of soup (no Cream or seafood).  The soup will be used to make a large Klondike combination soup for everyone.
